The holiday season has always been a time filled with positive emotions—joy, excitement, and happiness. But at some point, I realized that Santa isn’t real, and then that gifts can bring not only joy but also tons of waste, pollution, and harm.

The holiday season is coming. And where there are holidays, there are gifts, and where there are gifts, there’s wrapping. I trust that single-use plastic packaging is already out of your focus – you wouldn’t be reading this post otherwise.

A default toothbrush option is still a single-use plastic brush available in every store. They are cheap, unattractive, and harmful to the environment, as they’re non-recyclable and accumulate in landfills for thousands of years.

If someone had told me 5 years ago that toothpaste is harmful, I would have laughed in their face. However, knowing what I know now, it doesn’t sound funny anymore.

There’s almost never a perfect solution—nothing is 100% sustainable. There are always trade-offs and conditions. The microfiber cloths vs. paper towels debate is no exception. Neither is perfect, but one can be better than the other. Let’s dig in.

I’m a happy owner of two cats who like to play a lot but get bored with new toys in a matter of hours. And the more expensive the new toy, the faster they lose interest in it :)

In my campaign of getting rid of plastic at home, I reached kitchen. A washing machine already works on eco-friendly detergent pods, sponges are plant-based, now it’s time to find a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to plastic bottles with toxic liquid dish detergent. And a solution to this is a plant-based zero-waste solid dish soap bar.

Many internet blogs offer long lists of suggestions on what to do: '10 ways to be more eco-friendly,' '50 ways to be more sustainable,' etc. There’s no doubt a lot of great advice in these lists. However, I would like to approach this from a different angle – start with a simple rule of thumb first, and then move on to ideas on how to be more sustainable.

You might have noticed how much I love bamboo goods, especially toilet paper 🙈 and kitchen towels. And recently, I’ve discovered that facial tissues can be made from bamboo too. Yay!

I’ve recently realized that my cats’ environmental footprint might be bigger than mine 🙈. The greatest impact comes from their diet, with their litter confidently holding second place.
