Eco Laundry Sheets: Why You Won't Miss Liquid Detergents

Updated: Jan 18

More than a year ago, I switched from liquid laundry detergent to sheets (also known as 'strips') and never looked back.

Eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets

Why? Because unlike traditional liquid or powder detergents, eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets are:

  • Zero plastic waste.

  • Zero overall waste (with recyclable paper packaging).

  • Plant-based (no fossil fuels involved).

  • Many options are hypoallergenic.

  • Compact and lightweight (meaning fewer transportation emissions, plus it occupies less space in my kitchen).

  • No need for fabric softener.

Plus, they are easier to use than liquid detergent or powder – just put a sheet in with the laundry and run the machine. Also, your detergent drawer stays clean. Zero mess!

My Favorite Eco-Friendly Detergent Laundry Sheets

Eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets. Personal choice

✅ Zero plastic

✅ Hypoallergenic

✅ USDA Certified Biobased Products

✅ Cruelty free

✅ Plant-based

✅ Sheets per pack: 34, 50 or 102

Unfortunately, it doesn't come in a lavender scent, which I like very much, but the 'Fresh Scent' smells nice too.

Things to Take Into Consideration

  • The laundry sheets are water-sensitive and dissolve in water, so if transported or stored in a wet place, they can become a mess.

  • It was a bit tricky, at least for me, to figure out the proper dosage. Sheets usually come doubled, so it's not quite clear whether I should use a double sheet or split it in half. After a few trials, I ended up using a double sheet almost always, unless it's not a full load, which I try to avoid.

  • The laundry sheets foam less than liquid detergent (or maybe I’m still doing something wrong :)), but they work perfectly despite this.

In my personal view, there's not much difference between brands apart from the scent. They all (at least all that I've tried) do their job as well as liquid detergent. So, pick one that smells pleasant to you and comes in a large package to save money. What I like about SaltyLama is that they offer a 204-load option, and so does CLEARALIF (160-load option) and a few other brands.

Amazon Top Laundry Detergent Sheets With Economy Options (large packs):

I haven't tried these detergents myself, but they all are popular on Amazon and have lots of positive reviews. The last option, Tru Earth Hypoallergenic Baby Laundry Detergent, is recommended by a friend and offers a really large pack option – 384 strips. And if you count per load (half-sheet), then the cheapest on this list would be ALDEA:
